For those of you who are not on facebook, I posted this message and thought some of you might be interested:

This is a link to a picture of the house Dad grew up in in Salem, Oregon:http://tinyurl.com/onl395p. The address I have for Dad is 566 N. 17th St. but this is for 566 NE 17th St. but I think this is it. Obviously, it has been renovated or remodeled but probably similar to what it looked like when he lived there. And, here is a link to the Mill Stream he talked about going to all the time and playing in: http://tinyurl.com/qepdee4.

These are fantastic! This is so nice you guys scanned these. Btw, my brother-in-law is getting married in Tahoe in June, and unfortunately the dates of the trip conflict with the family camp-out. I am bummed they picked that week. We will pitch in for our share of the campground and everything even though we can't make it.

Hope Aubrey and joe are doing ok, was thinking of them a lot this past week.

Bill wanted to bring you in on this thread and make sure you were aware about the upcoming documentary of Jackie Robinson on PBS this Monday and Tues. I'm sure it will be great like all his others!

Yes.  As a lifelong Dodgers fan, I know his story well.  (So well, in fact, that I found myself bored by the recent movie, "42", a straightforward and pedestrian re-telling of Robinson's life.)  But you just know if it is a Ken Burns documentary, it will be somehow both old and new and different and glorious.  And with a beautiful musical soundtrack, no doubt.  I have his "Baseball" documentary on DVD, and all ten DVD's are an absolute treasure.  It came out just one year after Dad died; so sad because he would have loved it.

As famous as Robinson is and was, his role in the civil rights movement is underrated.  Before Martin Luther King, there was Jackie Robinson.  Given baseball's place as our national pastime, and much more so at the time, he was truly one of the greatest of all Americans.  And he could steal home base like nobody's business... ðŸ˜€.
