I just stumbled across Auntie Kay's Senior High School yearbook, Centennial High School, Pueblo, CO, with this little golden nugget and thought you guys might find this interesting:

Thanks so much for this Bill.  I was a huge fan of Auntie Kay.  She was a registered nurse, and super smart.  She was always great to hear from, I loved her spunk and flair.  Truth be told, she was a progressive woman out of time.  When we went to her and Uncle John's condo for Thanksgiving, those are some of my fondest memories.  She was her own woman, she liked to drink and smoke and have a good time, and I loved her wit and verve and panache.  She knew where I was coming from, I loved talking to her, she understood me.  I know in today's society, this is politically incorrect to say, but on Thanksgiving, I loved the aroma of roasted turkey and gin and whiskey and cigarette smoke in the air.  My Aunt Kay and my Uncle John.  Okay, just my two cents, that's my take.  A great woman, by any measure, in my book....

Great memories, Bob! Thanks for sharing. I have many of the same memories and feelings. A very authentic and strong-willed but also very caring woman. Always took care of us when Mom was teaching and dad was at work and we came home sick.

Great comment Bob you summed her up perfectly! Mom constantly tells me stories about how good her and John were to our family. She was so loving caring and always thinking of others. Sweet she was!

I love ALL your comments.  She was so loving and caring to all of us and she always took care of me at her house when I was sick when mom was teaching.  One angle handing me off to another.  I felt so loved and blessed.  We didn't have soda but she would always have this coke a cola on ice just bubbling and fizzing.  Always tasted so good and refreshing just like the commercials I thought :)   I have always felt  so honored to be named after her and that blessing kept on giving as I grew up. I had just told Vicki and Mom that I will never forgot how she smothered her own grief when uncle John died to have Karissa die just 3 days later and all the attention and focus turned to Robin and I.  I remember hugging her with tears streaming down both of our eyes and I said you just lost your husband and she told me you don't worry about that Kathi I am fine what you are going through is so much harder.  Having been married all these years to Robin I can't imagine the grief she or Mom have had.  She was a class act.  And to be quite honest I can't wait to see her again!

That's funny Bob about the smell of cigarettes and whiskey (don't remember the whiskey smell I guess because I am not around that smell to much haha)  but the smell of Thanksgiving and Turkey cooking and those mouth watering delicious bites of turkey that Uncle John would sneak us...always makes me so happy and I am right back there as a kid surrounded by so much love.  That love I felt from her and for our family has always made me feel she was an angel on earth who didn't have children of her own and therefore we would always be so special to her and her to us. Bill, when you posted that about the yearbook I instantly that that is Mom and Vicki!  Those are her genes!  And I love those genes and hope someday I can pass that love on like the woman who came before me or born before me!

Thanks for posting!  Love you all!

I love the line in here about young Kay that when she won the award for sweetest girl ("at least"!)  in school it was "unanimously conceded." Apparently she was so far and away the sweetest that there was no actual plebiscite.  Looks liked everybody thought well who else could it be and so these folks just went to print confident in their knowledge of the matter.
