Bill wanted to bring you in on this thread and make sure you were aware about the upcoming documentary of Jackie Robinson on PBS this Monday and Tues. I'm sure it will be great like all his others!

Yes. As a lifelong Dodgers fan, I know his story well. (So well, in fact, that I found myself bored by the recent movie, "42", a straightforward and pedestrian re-telling of Robinson's life.) But you just know if it is a Ken Burns documentary, it will be somehow both old and new and different and glorious. And with a beautiful musical soundtrack, no doubt. I have his "Baseball" documentary on DVD, and all ten DVD's are an absolute treasure. It came out just one year after Dad died; so sad because he would have loved it.
As famous as Robinson is and was, his role in the civil rights movement is underrated. Before Martin Luther King, there was Jackie Robinson. Given baseball's place as our national pastime, and much more so at the time, he was truly one of the greatest of all Americans. And he could steal home base like nobody's business...
