It's been taking a beating lately, but we might as well confess. There is no getting around it, that was the decade we, the children of Bill and Jackie Chapman of Long Beach and Los Alamitos, grew up in. I told Vicki, the first thing I remember about that decade was her rock'n roll and pop records. I would bust into her room to to check them out, I remember looking at them and being amazed. She had Simon and Garfunkel. She had the Byrds. She had the Rolling Stones and the Ruby Tuesday cover with Brian Jones along with Mick and Keith in a psychedelic 45 record sleeve. Talk about rock 'n roll! I looked at another record, what appeared to me to be long-haired young Englishmen on the cover, Meet the Beatles, staring back at me. I played the record and it blew my seven year-old mind. I loved the way they looked and I loved the music even more. This is chapter one of my blogging about our childhood. Your entries very much appreciated. All hot takes that you have much appreciated here....

Oh how I wish I still had those old albums! Our music was the best. The other thing I loved was the long flowing dresses. I noticed they are having a comeback now. I have seen the exact same ones that Kathi and I wore in stores recently. Bob I believe you called them the Manson dresses
Growing up in the sixties was so great! We didn’t have the crazy crowds everywhere like they do now. The kids now don’t have the freedom we had. We were lucky to have experienced that time in history!

Yes. I actually try to stay up with new music and even like a few hip-hop artists. But at the risk of sounding like the old man yelling "Get off my lawn" I feel sorry for younger kids. Where are the melodies of a Paul Simon, a Lennon and McCartney, Neil Diamond, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, and too many others to name?
I would save my quarters and dimes and nickels in the sixties to buy my favorite singles at the record shop. 93 KHJ published a regular list with the newest Boss 30 sounds.

The Real Don Steele, Humble Harve, Charlie Tuna, AM radio was king.
Vicki, here is that cover of the Rolling Stones' record that I mentioned that you had, I thought it was the coolest thing ever, I'm sure you remember it:
And yes, the fashion was great....and the posters got wild as the decade moved into psychedelia:
Bill was the first to turn hippie and I was comically late to the scene but did my best....
.
Good times, great memories...

The sixties were filled with memories of Vicki having the Beatles albums playing and I thinking the Monkees were so much better haha Luckily, as soon as I hit my teens I changed my mind. I also remember listening to the the Beach Boy albums that Vicki had and loved them and sharing a room with someone as cool as her! Such great memories of listening to all her albums and 45's and loving that music. Good times in our home thanks to Mom and Dad but not so great in world. Vicki might not remember but we also had a black and white tv in our room and I remember watching old Shirley Temple movies with her on Christmas break. I was so blessed to have an older sister that shared so much with me!
